Yasuko Bonkowski : Canine Behaviorist
I was born in Tokyo. I moved to Canada in 1996.
I graduated from the International College of Canine Behavioral Science.
I took a professional dog trainer beginner program, an advanced obedience instructor agility program, a recreational tracking training program, and a personal protection training program.
I have been an instructor at the International College of Canine Behavioral Science since 2002 and still teach students who wanted to be dog trainers. I also started my own dog training business in North Vancouver BC and had a radio show on a Japanese station giving dog behavioral advice and training tips for over 8 years.
As a canine behaviorist, it is very important to understand how our dog thinks and behaves. That is why I educate and help dog owners understand their own dog and improve their communication with it.
My approach to each dog is different because all dogs have different personalities. The right training approach is the key to succeed. My mottos are "there are no stupid dogs" and "all behavior has meaning".

I really appreciate Yasuko's care and dedication to help Tonka! I looked for a dog trainer because when a guest came over to my house he would jump up on people, hump them and nip at their feet!! She came first for a consultation which I thought was by the hour but she stayed until I had exhausted every question possible! She was extremely patient with us and wow did I learn a lot!! At my house she assessed how Tonka and I relate to each other and our behavior. I learned so much I bought a package of lessons which was worth every penny!! She trained us to build our relationship instead of using treats which is extremely valuable since Tonka is a bulldog and is already a big boy. Tonka has become very polite with my guests now and we're working on outdoor leash training. I highly recommend this training!!!!

Yasuko Bonkowski is an Expert Trainer dedicated to building relationships between humans and animals.
A few years ago we adopted an Australian Kelpie (Working Dog), not knowing the history or the breed (just knowing she was headed to a kill facility). When it comes to a rescue. You don't know what you are getting, you have no idea what that dog's been through, or what is ahead of you. You can only hope to love them and it is well received.
Lesson One, Yasuko took the time to tell us about Australian Kelpies, their history, and their imprinted DNA… Strong-Willed mind of her own, is smart, versatile, and capable – when well trained and well exercised can learn almost anything, and requires a confident owner who can take charge.
Lesson Two, seeing and understanding what Yasuko could do that I could not; within minutes my dog was responding to commands… Yasuko then told me to do the same. It wasn’t about training the dog, it was about training the owner.
Lesson Three, building a relationship (trust); from the first day of training (within minutes) Yasuko had a bond with my dog, and as if without saying a word, she (my dog) said I’m ready to be trained.
In a very short period of time, I was no-longer being dragged up the hill or had to wonder if she was going to attack or go after another dog. Other Dog Owners see my dog today, and ask is that the same dog… and I say Yasuko. Other Services – We have also used their Dog Walking Service since 2020
I can’t say enough about what Yasuko has given me other than Smile and say Peace of Mind… and yes my Australian Kelpie can spot Yasuko 3 blocks away by just the sound of her voice; as Yasuko is training another Dog Owner

Yasuko has helped our rescue dog Jimmy. Her training methods are ethical and positive (no treats or shock collar required!). When Jimmy first came to us, we felt helpless as Jimmy showed aggression as well as severe anxiety. She has helped my family to understand Jimmy's behaviours, which allowed us to bond with Jimmy quickly. Unlike some other training methods, Yasuko likes to give everyone enough time to practice training tips and tricks. We are so happy and lucky to work with her. I have known Yasuko for almost 8 years, since our dog (Levi) was 8 weeks old and since then Levi stays with her at least once a week and while we are away.
Every one knows how stubborn Shibas are and with Yasuko’s training skills everyone are impressed by Levi’s behaviour.

貴方の愛犬は、「ダメ」「No」の意味を理解していますか？訓練のゴールは、どれだけお座りが出来るか？コマンドが聞けるか？ではなく、どんな状況下でも、愛犬のどんな行動も、飼い主さんの「No」一言で辞める事が出来るようになる事です。
また貴方の愛犬は、人間社会で一緒に生活するためのルール、例えば人に飛び付いてはいけない、甘噛みをしてはいけない、家具を噛んではいけない、動くものを追いかけてはいけない、永遠と吠え続けてはいけない、リードを引っ張らずにお散歩をするなどのルールを知っていますか？ 訓練を通して、これからのルールを教えて行きます。
良い行動を教えるには、良い行動をしている時に、褒めてあげる事が大切です。良い行動・好ましい行動を褒める事で、愛犬に良い行動は何かを教える事が出来ます。
私のモットーは、「怒らない、怒鳴らない、叫ばない、体罰は与えない」、「犬の行動には、全て意味がある」、「バカ犬は、いない」です。
レッスンは、プライベート レッスンのみで、クライアントさんのお宅にお伺いさせて頂く出張訓練です。飼い主であるクライアントさんを指導させて頂き、飼い主さんが自分の愛犬を訓練するためのノウハウを教えます。英語と日本語で教える事が出来ます。
